A reticent young photographer strives to find a normal life working a dead-end job in a mall portrait studio and volunteering as a clean water activist for developing countries. But his dreams are threatened and his mysterious history begins to unravel when an ill-fated romance and personal tragedy plunge him into a fight for survival.
